Since Baboon Tuesday, I only have to hear the word ‘baboon’ and my heart races, my hands sweat, my jaw tightens and Amy Amygdala goes on to HIGH ALERT. In short, I am well stressed out.

My brain and my body have learnt from experience that baboons are dangerous.

KEEP AWAY FROM BABOONS, they warn me.

BABOON = BEWARE.

BE VERY WARE.

DANGER. DANGER.

TEETH.

EAT.

ME.

RUUUNNNNNN!

To keep me warned about baboons, my brain and my body have made a BABOON ALARM system. If I am reminded of baboons, my BABOON ALARM goes off.

When it goes off, I get panicky and I can’t concentrate. It doesn’t take much to set off my BABOON ALARM.

If I walk past some random person and they are wearing the same body spray as the baboon was and that smell goes up my nose, it’s BABOON ALARM TIME.
